Trend Shifts in 2026

Discover 2026 interior trends from Heimtextil, from warm earthy colours and natural textures to layered window treatments, smart control and statement hardware.

Heimtextil

This month, our marketing team visited Heimtextil, the world’s leading international trade fair for home and contract textiles. Held annually in Frankfurt, Heimtextil is where global manufacturers, designers, and suppliers come together to preview the future of interiors. For us, it was an invaluable opportunity to explore new fabric options, discover emerging designs, and strengthen our international partnerships.

More importantly, Heimtextil offers perspective. Conversations with specialists from different markets and disciplines help us read beyond short: term trends and understand where the industry is truly heading. As one exhibitor put it, Heimtextil isn’t about what sells today. It’s about what will feel right in homes two or three years from now.

With hundreds of exhibitions from global leaders in textiles and design, Heimtextil allowed us not only to reconnect with colleagues from around the world, but also to openly discuss the market shifts we have all witnessed over the past year. These shared insights helped us shape a clear, cohesive vision of what 2026 will bring.

The message was consistent: the new year will not deliver a revolution, but a maturation of home décor. Bold statements give way to confidence. Contrast is softened by comfort. What felt new and aspirational in 2025 becomes the baseline in 2026. If you don’t offer these features now, you’re not missing out. You’re already behind.

Colours: Warm earthy tones replacing cool minimalism

In 2025, bold accents began disrupting minimalist interiors. Rich hues and expressive colour choices challenged the dominance of cool greys and stark whites.

The colour directions for 2026 emphasise warm, atmospheric shades that provide personality and comfort without dominating a room. Herbal greens like moss, olive, and eucalyptus are described as restorative new neutrals, while smoky blue: greens and cashmere: soft neutrals deeply root interiors in warmth rather than cool minimalism. Deep reds like burgundy and plum continue to add richness without overpowering a space.

At Heimtextil, these palettes were reflected across textiles and window treatments alike, reinforcing a trend toward colours that feel intentional, tactile, and deeply comforting.

Colourful fabrics with different textures

Materials: Natural textures

By 2026, sustainability is no longer a trending selling point — it’s expected. What defines materials now is texture, depth, and sensory warmth.

Organic materials bring warmth and naturalness to interiors, shifting focus from smooth synthetics toward tactile weaves, linen drapery, and woven shades that combine visual and physical interest.

The Hues

We also need to emphasise a clear preference for warm, grounded palettes paired with natural textures, noting that these materials add a sense of calm and connection to space.

Taken together, these trends show that in 2026, texture isn’t just decoration — it’s fundamental.

Layering: Standard practice, not afterthought

Layered window treatments — like sheers + blackout blinds or blinds paired with curtains — were emerging as style tools in 2025. In 2026 they are expected as standard practice, giving homeowners practical light control and aesthetic flexibility.

Across Heimtextil and trend sources, layered solutions were shown as intentional compositions rather than add: ons. This reflects a market that prioritises design flexibility from the outset, not as an afterthought.

Design Anchors: New ways of using products

Flat, expressive accent walls were among the interior hits of 2025, but they have limitations. Simplicity sometimes lacked depth and often relied on architectural framing to succeed.

Design trend spotlight Homes and Gardens highlights a compelling alternative: curtains used as accent walls. Their coverage of Isabella Rossellini’s ‘90s: style bedroom shows curtains used beyond the window plane to introduce depth, texture, and emotional warmth into a room. Curtains become architectural elements, not just functional coverings.

Similarly, Apollo Blinds notes that window dressings matter more than ever in interiors because they contribute significantly to the look and feel of a space — “window dressings are a major design contributor rather than an afterthought.” (apollo-blinds.co.uk)

This wider role for curtains and blinds reflects a broader trend of sensory, layered interiors where texture and presence matter as much as colour or furniture shape.

Statement Hardware: Quiet luxury meets functional comfort

In 2026, hardware is evolving from a purely functional element into a refined design accent.

Warm metal finishes and detailed trims are trending, with brass, bronze, and antique tones creating an elegant, timeless look that enhances both curtains and blinds without overpowering the room.

At the same time, Unbeatable Blinds notes that smart features like motorised blinds and integrated automation — once considered luxury — are becoming expected conveniences rather than optional upgrades. They describe this shift as part of “a wider movement toward effortless living, where technology enhances comfort without visual intrusion.” (unbeatableblinds.co.uk)

The result is a blend of quiet luxury and everyday utility: hardware that feels sophisticated but works intuitively.

Bottom Line

2026 isn’t a break from 2025 — it’s a deepening of the trends already underway. According to Unbeatable Blinds, the year ahead will be defined by:

  • Interiors with warmer, deeper colour palettes.

  • Natural textures as design foundations.

  • Layered window treatments as design essentials.

  • Smart, seamless control expected rather than optional.

  • Sustainability built in, not added on.

These shifts collectively shape interiors that feel richer, more intentional, and more connected to how people want to live — with warmth, comfort, and thoughtful detail at the centre.
